Burundi - Gitwe

Here's something for the late summer days! Our second summer release from our friends at Long Miles Coffee Project is a sweet Bourbon variety with sparkling acidity.

Filter coffee:
Sparkling cup with notes of tangerine, pomegranate, lemon verbena, and roasted almond.

Espresso:

Strawberry, dried fig, raisin, cacao nibs. Syrupy sweetness and creamy mouthfeel.

With milk:

Delicate and smooth. Apple crumble and caramel.

The Producer:

We started working with the Long Miles Coffee Project at the same time as we started roasting. After learning about their story before Populus even existed and tasting their coffees, they soon became our partner of choice in Burundi. During the years, we have had the pleasure of getting to know the people behind the project and are happy to call them our friends.

The founders of LMCP, Ben and Kristy, come from the USA. They moved to Burundi in 2011 and saw that both injustice and poor farming practices permeated the country’s newly privatized coffee industry. They also saw that roasters around the world had a difficult time getting consistently great coffees from Burundi. With the understanding of the need for transparency and great coffee, they started Long Miles Coffee as a farmer-driven coffee production model in 2013. In their first coffee season, they worked with just fifty coffee farmers. They now work with over 5,500 coffee-farming families on eleven unique hills within Burundi, with expansion efforts underway into Uganda and Kenya.
