The Producer:
This coffee originates from the Kayanza Province, renowned for producing some of the highest-quality coffees in Burundi, and was a first-place winner of the coveted Cup of Excellence in 2013. Processed through one of Burundi’s few double fermentation washing stations, Matongo coffee cherries are hand-picked by women coffee farmers in a high-altitude microclimate, where they are grown among tea, bananas, beans, and cassava plants.
JNP's owner, Jeanine, has known these farmers for a long time, establishing a close bond over the years. JNP's business model is driven by high-quality coffee, based on strong producer partnerships and shared knowledge, in pursuit of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They encourage transformational change for local coffee farmers by promoting gender equality, supporting financial literacy education, and developing leadership skills. These efforts to empower the farmers and their families build resilience and expand their coffee production capacity.
