Meet our new Sales and Community Manager – Chiaki

Ethopian coffee farmer carefully drying specialty beans under the sun

We are very happy to welcome Chiaki Kobayashi to the Populus team from the beginning of August.

Chiaki has years of experience in barista work and quality control and she is also the reigning Cup Tasters Champion of Germany and an active member of the specialty coffee community. In her new position as our sales and community manager she will be taking care of our wholesale customers; finding the perfect coffees for them, training their teams and making sure they are getting the support they need. As the community manager, she will be organising events, brewing guides, and tastings for coffee lovers in Berlin and beyond.

We are certain that with Chiaki's personality and expertise all our wholesale customers and home brewers are in great hands.

Special release: Uganda - Kitonya

Ellie's Choice - Kitonya

To celebrate our Head Roaster, Ellie's win of the German Coffee Roasting Championships, they picked this beautiful natural-processed SL 28 variety from Uganda for a special release. This coffee is produced in western Uganda by a woman-led farmer group called Kitonya Coffee Farmers.

With bright acidity,  syrupy mouthfeel, and notes of strawberry, nectarine, and soft florals, this coffee is a perfect choice for these late summer days no matter how you brew it. A great coffee for a deliciously juicy glass of cold brew or iced filter.

The label is designed by the talented illustrator Victoria Stampfer in collaboration with Ellie, and it's inspired by the coffee's flavor notes.

News from the Roastery

Earlier this summer, as Communal Coffee’s story came to its end, Populus Coffee decided to buy the business and turn it into a shared roasting space called Euro Roast. We are continuing the idea of Communal Coffee in the sense of shared space, knowledge, facilities, and equipment. Working alongside other coffee professionals as part of a true community is the most inspiring part of a co-roastery, and we are happy that our friends from August 63, Jules, Tryst and Vote wanted to continue roasting here with us. Follow Euro Roasts Instagram account to see what is happening at our roastery.
