Honduras - Dolmin Moreno

Our 10-year birthday special is a vibrant and elegant washed SL-28 variety from Dolmin Moreno with notes of blackberries, green grapes, and soft floral notes.

As we are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, we are also celebrating all the long relationships, partnerships, and friendships we have established during this time. We chose Dolmin's coffee for our first Birthday year special because his coffee was also one of the first releases for Populus when we started roasting back in 2016.

Filter coffee:

Elegant, silky, and vibrant coffee with sweet blackberries, floral notes, and juicy green grapes

Espresso:

Bright and vibrant with black currants, dark berries, and cherries

Cappuccino:

Fresh and sweet, velvety mouthfeel, and notes of berry mousse

The Producer:

We met Dolmin and his family of specialty coffee producers for the first time back in 2014 on our first-ever trip to the origin. We have been buying coffee from him and his uncles every year since, and always look forward to the Honduran coffee season with excitement. This year, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary and chose his coffee as our first Birthday release as his coffee was also one of the first coffees we ever roasted back in 2016.

Dolmin's farm lies around 1650 meters above sea level on the steep hills of the Santa Barbara mountain range, with slope-specific microclimates. At this altitude, the coffee trees grow, surrounded by thick shrouding clouds hanging over the deep green backdrop. Combined with the rich volcanic soil, gives the Santa Barbara area coffees the complex cup profile they are known for and that we fell in love with.

Dolmin is focused on producing high-quality coffees and is no stranger to the CoE Honduras winners list. He has ranked in the top ten for multiple consecutive years with his Geisha lots.

The Morenos have been the source of inspiration to many great specialty coffee farmers in this area and are highly respected producers in the community. To many, their family's success in their field has been the reason to start growing specialty coffee.

This coffee is an SL-28 variety, a common variety for Kenya, not so much for Honduras. In the cup, you can find the classic SL-28 notes with a Honduran touch. A clean, bright, and vibrant cup with silky mouthfeel.
