The Producer:

The Gititu Factory, located in the heart of the Kiambu region in Kenya, is operated by one of the oldest cooperative societies, the 70-year-old Gititu Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS).  Their name pays tribute to the once extensive forests in the area, meaning literally 'large forest' in the native Kikuyu language.

Gititu's longevity is all the more impressive, as it was formed during a time when smallholder farmers were often prohibited from growing coffee. Nowadays, the cooperative manages eight factories within Kiambu County and serves approximately 5,000 smallholder farmers out of which around 1000 deliver cherries to Gititu Factory.

The cooperative commitment to transparency and communication is one of the reasons for its endurance and success through the decades. Through meticulous processing, Gititu Factory aims to deliver exceptional coffees that embody its members' and staff's dedication and expertise.
