The Producer:

Even before starting Populus Coffee, we knew we wanted to work together with the Long Miles Coffee Project; this is already the seventh year in a row. During these years, we have visited each other on both sides, built an extraordinary relationship, and are proud to call the people at Long Miles our friends.

All our coffees from Burundi come from this beautiful farmer-focused initiative, which aims to bring smallholder farmers and roasters closer together to better the quality of coffee and, more importantly, the lives of Burundian coffee farmers.

This coffee comes from the Mutana Hills in Kayanza province, where their first washing station, Heza, is located. With breathtaking panoramic views, these hills, covered in green tapestry, lie next to the forest of Kibira National Park, which allows mist to fall from the forest and tumble onto farmers’ fields daily. With its silty and sandy soils, Mutana Hills can grow everything people like to eat. Wheat, cassava, potato, onions, peas, beans, sweet potato, passion fruit, and tea are grown alongside coffee. At an altitude of 2100-2200 m.a.s.l. the coffee trees are subjected to cooler weather allowing the cherries to mature slowly and develop more complex flavors.
