Santa Bárbara, Honduras, has a special meaning to Populus, and this year marks the tenth year of us working with the same partners from there, San Vicente, Benjamin, and Arturo Paz, the Moreno family, Juan Evangelista Fernandez, and many others.
This bundle ties together the flavors we fell in love with:
- Washed Pacas by Mario Moreno with structured notes of stone fruits, black tea, and nougat.
- Washed Parainema by Juan Evangelista Fernandez with hibiscus-like florals, juicy pear cider, and buttery macadamias
- Washed Geisha by Arturo Paz with round citrus notes, white florals, and elegant light and round body.

Mario Moreno:
Mario Moreno is one of the seven brothers of the Moreno family. Together with his family, they have made an exceptional journey in the specialty coffee business and have been one of the driving forces in transforming how coffee is cultivated in their neighbourhood.
Their family's "dynasty" began with the original El Filo farm and its patriarch, Daniel Moreno. Steep hills, high altitude, close proximity to rainforests, and the striking contrast between the coldness of the nights and the warmth of the sunny days have a great effect on creating complex flavor notes, depth, sweetness, and brightness characteristic of the coffees from this area. Combined with generations of knowledge, passion, and dedication, this becomes a winning recipe, so much so that they are no strangers to the Cup of Excellence winners list. Mario himself has five wins in the last ten years.
Juan Evangelista Fernandez:
Arturo Paz:
Arturo runs the dry mill and exporting company, San Vicente, with his cousin, Benjamin, as the chief agronomist and cupper. His precise palate and extensive knowledge of coffee agronomy and processing give him an entirely unique perspective on advising and supporting the farmers they work with.
On his own farm, Arturo is focused on producing high-quality coffees and is no stranger to the CoE Honduras winners list. He is not interested in quantity but quality and has divided his farm into smaller plots, each cultivating a different variety and aiming for a unique flavor profile.; Pacas, Pacamara, Bourbon, SL-28, Maragogype, and Geisha.
